The flag of Oman is composed of three horizontal stripes in white, red and green colors and red vertical stripe on the left side of the flag. These colors are traditional for Arab nations and symbolize the unity among them. At the top of the left red stripe, a white coat of arms of sultans is placed. It portrays two crossed sabers in decorated scabbards, dagger and pylons. Another interpretation of the colors says that red is to commemorate the Islamic Ibadijs, white is the color of peace and green represents the mountains Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountains in translation) and the Muslim faith of the local people. The flag has been used with slight modifications since 1970.
